Handyman in Chandler, IN
Chandler is a town in Warrick County just east of Evansville, between the city's east side and Newburgh to the south and Boonville to the northeast. It has a working-town history. A post office here opened in 1847 under the name Lee, and the Central Canal, part of the ambitious Wabash and Erie Canal system, was dug nearby but never finished; Tow Path Road still follows the old canal towpath. The town took its current name in 1874 from a railroad foreman, and coal mining started a year later, with six underground mines operating over most of a century. As the mines closed in the 1940s, houses went up quickly, and the town incorporated in 1953. That history explains much of the housing: lots of modest one-story homes from the 1940s through the 1960s, small brick and frame ranches, Cape Cods and cottages on simple streets, followed by newer subdivisions as the town grew from around 2,900 residents in 2010 to nearly 3,700 by 2020. Today it's a young, growing town where families commute to Evansville, Newburgh and the industrial employers in Warrick County, and its homes range from seventy-year-old houses on their second or third set of owners to brand-new builds still getting their first shelves hung.
Chandler is laid out along State Road 62 and the old rail line that still carries freight through town, with Tow Path Road tracing the line of the canal that never opened. Chandler Elementary School and the town's branch of the Ohio Township Public Library are neighborhood anchors, and the Warrick Area Transit System runs buses into Evansville. It's a short drive to the shopping on Evansville's east side and to I-69 for commuters heading north or toward the industrial plants along the river. The land around town is flat to gently rolling, much of it former farmland, with drainage ditches and low spots that hold water after a heavy rain, which shows up in yards, fences and crawl spaces. Like the rest of the region, Chandler gets humid summers, strong spring thunderstorms and winters that freeze and thaw over and over.

Jobs we handle a lot around Chandler
In Chandler's older homes, we repair doors that drag or won't latch, patch cracks and dents in drywall, replace worn faucets, shutoffs and toilet parts, and swap old light fixtures and bath fans for newer ones. Many of these homes have small, busy kitchens and a single bathroom, so we plan the plumbing work so you're never without water for long. In newer houses, the list leans toward TV mounting, furniture assembly, ceiling fans, smart home devices and garage storage. Outside, it's fence and gate repair, especially on wood privacy fences whose posts have rotted in wet ground, cleaning and re-securing gutters, adding downspout extensions to move water off flat lots, and pressure washing siding, driveways and patios.
Questions we hear in Chandler
My Chandler house is from the 1950s. What usually needs attention?
Homes from that era are generally well built, but seventy years adds up. We often see doors that stick or won't latch because the house has settled, drywall or plaster cracks over doors and windows, original or early replacement faucets and toilets that leak, old shutoff valves that won't close, and outdated ceiling lights or bathroom fans. We work through that list in one visit, and our licensed electricians and plumbers handle any connections.
Can you help with a brand-new house in one of the newer neighborhoods?
Yes. New homes need a lot of hands-on setup: mounting TVs and shelves, assembling furniture, hanging curtain rods and blinds, adding ceiling fans where the builder only left a light, installing smart thermostats, video doorbells and smart locks, and putting up garage storage. After the first year, we also fix the drywall nail pops and settling cracks that show up as the framing dries out.
Water stands in my yard after storms. Can you help with gutters and downspouts?
Yes, for the part that comes off the house. We clean gutters and check that they slope toward the downspouts, fix leaking joints, and add extensions or splash blocks so roof water lands several feet away from the foundation instead of pooling against it. For regrading or drainage systems in the yard itself, a landscaper is the better call, and we'll say so.
